Chapter   Twelve

"Okay, guys. We're here," BJ said.

VJ looked out the window at the building they had parked by. The plan was that her, BJ, and Alisha would go to the recording studio the Boys were at and surprise Brian. Then they would go someplace quiet and talk. They were supposed to be there at 12 noon, when the Boys were about to break for lunch.

"I just hope Brian talks to me," VJ said, nervously.

"Don't worry. If he was the one calling you from all over the world, he'll talk to you," Alisha reasoned.

"Come on," BJ said. "The guys are going to break for lunch soon."

The girls got out of the car and walked inside the building. They asked the receptionist what studio the Boys were in and headed there. They walked into the empty, little rec room and waited for AJ to call them on their cell phone.

"Alright, fellas, let's break for lunch," the producer said into the microphone. "We'll continue in an hour."

The Boys nodded and took off their headsets. They just sat down in the chairs by the microphones. They had been recording for about four hours and they had only done one song completely so far.

"Man, this is taking forever," Nick said.

"I know," Brian agreed. "I never knew how hard it was to record one album. You have to sing to same song over and over and over...."

"Alright, Rok," AJ interrupted him. "We get the point." He got out of his chair. "I'll be right back. I have to make a phone call."

AJ walked into the other little room, where the recording equipment was. There was a soundproof window that separated the two rooms, so AJ knew he'd get the privacy he needed. He took out his cell phone and dialed the number to BJ's cell phone.

"Hello?" BJ said when she answered.

"Are you girls ready?" AJ asked her.

"Yeah. We're in the room you told us to go to right now," BJ said.

"Alright. We'll go there, but tell Brian some excuse when we leave. Then we can send in VJ."

"Okay. We'll be waiting." Then they hung up.

AJ walked back into the other room and sat down.

"Who'd you call?" Brian asked.

"Just a fan that gave me her phone number," AJ told him. "She didn't believe it was me and hung up."

Nick and Brian laughed, while Kevin and Howie just shook their heads, smiling.

"So what to you guys want to do?" Brian asked.

"I have to go to the bathroom," Nick said, getting up and heading out the door.

"I'm going to give my mom a call," Howie said. He took out his cell phone and went into the rec room.

"I have to go talk to my mom about something," AJ said. He left also.

"I have to ask Donna a question about the schedule after we're done recording," Kevin said. "What about you?"

"I think I'll stay in here and give VJ a call," Brian said. He took out his cell phone and dialed her phone number while Kevin left him alone.

VJ, BJ, and Alisha looked up when they heard the door to the room open and saw Nick walk in.

"Hey, people," he said. He walked over to Alisha and sat down next to her on the couch. "What's up, Alisha?"

"Hey, Nick," she answered. "Not much here. How about you?"

"Just working, that's all."

"Is cool to be recording an album?"

"It's a lot of work. We've completed only one song."

"That's it?"

"Yeah. We're working on another song right now."

Then the door opened again and Howie walked in with a phone in his hand.

"Who you calling, Howie?" BJ asked.

"I told Brian I was going to call my family," he said, nonchalantly.

"That's a good cover," VJ laughed.

"It is for Howie," Nick said. "You're talking about a guy who calls his family almost everyday when we're on tour."

"I like to keep them up-to-date on what's going on with the tour," Howie defended himself. "I think I'll give them a call right now."

With that last comment, Howie dialed his parents number and started talking to them. At that moment, AJ walked in the rec room.

"Alright, VJ," he said. "As soon as Kevin get in here, we'll send you in."

"Okay," she said. AJ then walked over to BJ and sat down next to her and started talking them.

"What was your excuse?" BJ asked.

"I said I was going to talk my mom about something or other," he told them.

"Is your mom here with you?" VJ asked.

"Yeah. She's the group's publicist."

"That must be cool to have her on tour with you," BJ said.

"Nick's dad is with him since he's still a minor."

"Oh yeah. He's sixteen." VJ looked at Nick and Alisha, sitting on the other side of the room, talking. "I wonder if he's told Ali."

"Would she care?" AJ asked her.

"No. She went out with an eighth grader when she was a freshman in high school. Trust me, she has no qualms about going out with someone younger than her."

Then, finally, Kevin walked through the door.

"Alright, he's by himself," he said. "You can go in now, VJ."

VJ took a deep breath, then got off the couch and walked over to the door. She looked back at everyone and they were all watching her. BJ and Alisha smiled at her encouragingly. VJ smiled back and walked through the door. She saw Brian through a window, sitting with his back to her. She took a couple more deep breaths before opening the door and walking in.
