Chapter   Thirty-Two

The next day, Alisha and Nick stayed at the apartment, waiting for the doctor's office to call. Brian and VJ went out for the day since it was close to the last day the Boys were going to be in town. They wanted to spend as much time together as they could. Brian and VJ didn't think it was unusual for Nick to be spending the night at VJ's and Alisha's apartment 'cause Brian was doing the same thing. But they had no idea what the actual reason was.

Every time the phone rang, Nick and Alisha both jumped to answer it. They waited, hoping that Alisha wasn't pregnant, but also thinking about what they had to do if it was true. Finally, when the couple had managed to enjoy the movie they were watching, the call they had been waiting for all morning came at 12:30pm. Alisha managed to beat Nick to the phone and picked it up.

"Hello?" she said, nervously.

"May I speak with Alisha Walker, please?" said a male voice.

"This is her. Is this Dr. Evans?"

"Yes. We got the results to your test," Dr. Evans told her.

"Well?" Alisha kept her gaze away from Nick.

"What is he saying?" Nick kept asking over and over.

"He's about to tell me the results," Alisha whispered to him. Then Nick shut up.

"Well, I don't know if congratulations are in order," Dr. Evans started, "but, the test came back positive. You're two months pregnant."

Alisha stood there, shocked into silence. Even though she knew that this was a very real possibility, she was hoping against hope that it wouldn't be true. Nick saw the expression on her face, but couldn't tell whether the test was positive or not.

"Hello? Are you still there," said Dr. Evans.

"Yeah, I'm still here," she answered.

"I need you and Nick to come in and discuss all your options, the prenatal-care plan, the health precautions, everything tomorrow. Is 10:30am okay with you two?"

"Yeah, that's fine. Thanks a lot, Dr. Evans."

"I'll see you tomorrow."

"All right. Bye."

"Bye, Alisha. Just remember, everything will be all right, but it won't be easy."

"Yeah, I know." Then Alisha hung up.

"What did you say?" Nick said, practically jumping up and down.

"We're gonna have a baby," Alisha said, quietly.

Nick stood there, feeling like someone had just knocked all the air out of him. Alisha walked over to the couch and sat down with her head in her hands. Nick sat down next to her and put his arms her as she cried. All these thoughts were racing through his mind, but his most prominent thought was how Alisha was feeling at that moment.

"It's gonna be okay," Nick said, soothingly. "I'll be with you every step of the way. I'm not gonna leave you alone."

"What are we gonna tell everybody?" Alisha asked, her voice shaking. "How are your managers, record company, the rest of the group, and especially the fans going to react?"

Nick sat there once again, shocked into silence. She's the one pregnant and she's worried about my career? he thought in amazement. "I don't think we should tell them right away," Nick said. "I mean, our managers, the record company, or the fans. But this isn't something that can be kept from Brian, VJ, Howie, Kevin, AJ, or BJ. We'll tell them about it tomorrow. Did the doctor tell you how many months?"

"He said two months." Alisha wiped away the tears in her eyes. "He wants us to come in at 10:30 tomorrow morning to discuss some other things."

"Alright. Come on, mom," said Nick, pulling Alisha off the couch. "You've been stressing out and worrying all day. You need to rest."

Nick led Alisha to her room and put her to bed. Alisha couldn't believe how mature Nick was being about the situation. Most guys his age would've been pounding the pavement right now, she thought. "How are you feeling?" she asked him. "I want to know."

"I feel like my whole life has just been turned upside down," said Nick, honestly. "But as long as I'm with you, I know I'll make it through. I love you."

"I love you, too."

"You're the angel sent to me from heaven, Ali. This child we're gonna have is another sign we were meant to be together." Nick leaned down and kissed Alisha on the forehead. "Now, go to sleep. When Brian and VJ get back, I'll come wake you up."

"Okay." Alisha closed her eyes and was soon asleep.

Nick watched her for a few minutes. Then he looked at the cross the hung beside the bedroom window. Please, God, give us the strength to get through this together, Nick prayed silently. Then he went into the living room to watch TV.

Brian and VJ came back to the apartment, and walked in laughing. Whoa, thought VJ. Deja vu. Only this time, they saw Nick lying on the couch, asleep with the remote in his hand. VJ walked over to him.

"Hey, Nick," VJ said in his ear and shaking him awake. "Where's Ali?"

Nick slowly opened his eyes. He saw Brian and VJ staring at him. "Alisha's in her room, asleep."

"Oh, okay," said VJ. "What did you guys do all day?"

"Nothing much," Nick said, sitting up. "We just watched movies here. What about you?"

"We had a blast," said Brian. "We drove all over Orlando, went to the beach, went shopping, went to Disney World. It was a lot of fun."

"We were thinking of going to Busch Gardens in Tampa tomorrow morning," VJ said. "Do you and Alisha want to come with us?"

"No, that's okay," Nick answered, quickly. "We're were going to do something else tomorrow."

"Oh really? What?" Brian looked at Nick, curiously. He thought Nick was acting kind of weird.

"We're just going to do something together," said Nick. "Um, I'll go get Ali."

Nick walked out of the living room, calmly, even though he felt like running as fast as he could. Brian and VJ looked at each other, worriedly. Both knew Nick wasn't being straight with them.

Nick opened the door to Alisha's room, quietly, and looked in. Alisha looked up quickly, then let out a deep breath when she saw Nick.

"When did you wake up?" he asked.

"I felt like VJ was close, so I got up. Then I heard Brian and VJ come through the front door." Alisha walked over to him. "Do you think they suspected anything was up?"

"I don't know." Nick put his arms around her waist, as she did the same. "I don't think I did a good job of hiding it."

"VJ asked if we wanted to go to Busch Gardens with them tomorrow morning. I kind of panicked and told them we were gonna do something else."

"Oh no." Alisha rested her head against Nick's chest. "VJ is good at interpreting people's moods. She always has been. She could suspect something's up."

"If they're still here, we'll tell them after the doctor's appointment."

"What doctor's appointment?" VJ said from behind them.

Nick and Alisha saw her and Brian standing in the doorway, looking concerned.

"What is he talking about, Ali?" VJ looked at her.

Alisha couldn't say anything. She just stood there with a look of fear on her face.
